Lady Cougars To Begin State Monday

Piedmont Academy’s varsity softball team will be on the road for the first round of state Monday,Oct. 7.

The Lady Cougars will travel to Valdosta to meet Citizens Christian in an opening-round GISA Class AA best-of-three series. The teams will begin play at 11 a.m. and continue until one team has posted two victories.

Piedmont defeated Gatewood 9-0 in a non-region game Tuesday while recognizing seniors Carla Martin and Anna Jones. O’Neil Sealy was 2-for-3 at the plate as was Remington Marsh. Both players also drove in a run.

Amelia Dodson and Cheyenne Galloway both scored two runs while Madison Burnham was 1-for-1 with a run scored.

Martin notched the win by working six innings and allowing just two hits. She also had one strikeout.

The Lady Cougars were to conclude the regular season Thursday with a doubleheader against the Gwinnett Barons at home beginning at 5 p.m.

Coach Danny Camp’s team is currently 18-8-1 overall and finished the season 5-3 in Region 4-AA. The Lady Cougars are a No. 3 seed for the state tournament.

“Hopefully we can earn some wins at state,” Camp said. “We believe we have played a tough schedule this year and that should help us.”
