MS Lady Cougars Beat Gatewood
The Piedmont Academy Middle School Lady Cougars defeated Gatewood on the road Monday 2-1 in a game shortened by darkness.
The game was considered official after four innings as Madison Morton notched another win going the distance with three strikeouts. Morton allowed just two hits.
“It was a good ball game,” coach Dan Funt said. “Both teams showed up and were ready to play. We look forward to playing them again next week.”
Morton was also 2-for-2 at the plate Monday with a run while Gracie Hunt was 1-for-1 with a run. Rylee Owens drove in a run.
Piedmont will compete in a tournament hosted by Tattnall Square Academy Saturday. The first game is set for 10:30 a.m. The tournament is double elimination and will feature six teams.
“I am looking forward to the tournament,” Funt said. “Several of the players who were on the team last year remember we did not play well in the tournament. So hopefully, we will play better this year. Coach Danny Camp and I have been preaching for our players to do the little things right and finish strong, so hopefully we will do that.”
