Lady Cougars Complete Region Schedule

Piedmont Academy’s varsity softball team has wrapped up its 2013 region schedule and will enter the state tournament next month as a No. 3 seed.

The Lady Cougars defeated 4-AA foe LaGrange Academy 15-6 last Thursday for a 5-3 mark in the region. Flint River will be the No. 1 seed from 4-AA followed by Windsor, Piedmont and Central Fellowship.

In the win against LaGrange, Carla Martin earned the win with one strikeout.

At the plate, Emily Hammonds was 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI while Taylor Swart and Cheyenne Galloway were both 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. O’Neil Sealy continued a productive season by going 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI.

Matti Smith was 1-for-4 with a run scored with Remington Marsh adding a 1-for-3 day with a double, run scored and three RBI.

The Lady Cougars stepped out of region play Monday and defeated rival Gatewood 14-4 on the road. Galloway, Sealy, Marsh and Anna Jones all contributed offensively.

Hammonds was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Amelia Dodson finished 3-for-3 with a run and RBI. Marsh was also 3-for-3 with two runs and four RBI.

Martin earned the win while striking out four and walking two.

Piedmont will host The Heritage School Monday, Sept. 30, for a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. before hosting Gatewood Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Lady Cougars are also hosting the Gwinnett Barons, next Thursday, Oct. 3, in a 5 p.m. doubleheader to close out the regular season. The state
