Child Advocates Needed

Ocmulgee Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), a nonprofit organization that advocates for abused and neglected children, is in the process of recruiting volunteers for its fall training.

CASA serves the eight county Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit, which includes Baldwin, Greene, Jones, Putnam, Wilkinson, Hancock, Jasper and Morgan counties.

CASA has served the district since 1997 and has over 50 volunteers but is in need of more.

Too many children come into the judicial system through no fault of their own but because of the neglect or abuse of someone else.

CASA volunteers advocate for these children by giving them a voice in court, and work in the best interest of these abused and neglected children.

Becoming a CASA volunteer is a very rewarding experience where you can give a small amount of time and a child can reap the benefits of having someone who cares make sure that their voice is heard in a system where they are sometimes overlooked.

If you are interested in becoming a CASA volunteer, contact the CASA office at 478-452-9170, visit the website ocmulgeecasa.org or contact Lori Muggridge at ocasalm@baldwin.k12.ga.us
