Lady Cougars Win

Piedmont Academy’s varsity softball team got back on the winning track in region play Tuesday with a 6-5 home victory against Central Fellowship.

The Lady Cougars scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch. Piedmont had to rally from a 5-1 deficit early in the contest.

“Our region will be a battle all season,” coach Danny Camp said. “There is not a whole lot of difference between any of the teams.”

Carla Martin started Tuesday’s game before O’Neil Sealy finished the contest.

“We played great defense,” Camp said. “It was a total team effort. It was a fun game.”

Cheyenne Galloway scored the winning run for the Lady Cougars, who are now 7-4 overall and 2-1 in Region 4-AA.

Prior to Tuesday’s game, the Lady Cougars fell 11-3 win region foe Windsor.

Piedmont led 1-0 early in the game but Windsor scored nine runs in the top of the sixth inning.

“We missed some opportunities early for three or four more runs,” Camp said. “In the sixth, Windsor really starting connecting at the plate. It was one of those games where you have to tip your hat to them. I’ll take the blame for the loss. We were coming off a big win two days earlier and I didn’t have us prepared to play. Every game is important and you have to show up to win.”
