Lady ‘Canes Rally for Region Win
The Lady ’Canes extended their season-to-date record to 6-2 after a win Tuesday at home versus Taylor County in their first region game.
The Lady Vikings came to town with a 7-1 record sitting on top of the region, but left town with the Lady ’Canes on top after being defeated 14-6 in a five inning game.
The Lady ‘Canes led 4-0 early in the game, but then dropped behind 6-4 after the top of the fifth inning.
The rally came in the bottom of the fifth when the Lady ’Canes put together a barrage of hits and scored 10 runs to end the game on the Eight-Run-Inning Rule.
Taylor Garret pitched all five innings and had 11 strike outs, gave up six hits and only one earned run. At the plate she also had a single and a RBI.
Destiny Glawson led the hitting with a walk, a single, a triple, an inside-the-park home run and two RBI.
Janee Chapman had two singles, a double and two RBI, followed by Heather Anderson with two singles, a walk and a RBI, Beth Hart with two singles and a RBI, Kaitlan Needham with a triple and a RBI, Samantha Johnson with a single and three walks, Morgan Studdard with a single and a RBI, Madison Reese with a single and a RBI, and Tierra Whitlock with a sacrifice RBI.
In what was supposed to be their first region game versus Northeast, scheduled for August 15, was rained out and will be rescheduled later in the season.
They secured their fifth win of the season on August 22 in Macon where they defeated Howard 12-4 in a game shortened to five inning game in which Garrett picked up her third win of the season, allowed three hits, three walks and one earned run.
Offensively Chapman, Needham and Studdard had two hits each, Needham and Whitlock had triples off the fence and Hart had two RBI.
The team is scheduled to travel to Barnesville to face Lamar County today, August 29, and to play Crawford County at home on September 5.
