Lady Cougars Win Region Opener

The Piedmont Academy Middle School softball team earned a 5-2 win in four innings Saturday against Loganville Christian Academy.

A doubleheader was scheduled but the first game was called after the fourth inning due to weather conditions.

Madison Morton earned the win working three innings, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out seven.

“I was proud of how the players performed on Saturday,” said coach Dan Funt.

“The conditions were really rough and it was real wet. We always talk about how the conditions may not be ideal and you have to learn to deal with that. That is how life works. I’m proud of this team’s progression and I hope it continues into this week.”

Offensively, Cassidy Cook was 1-for-2 with a run while Hailey Hooper was 1-for-2 with a run and RBI. Lucy Tuggle and Morton were both 1-for-1 with a walk.

Madison Johnson and Rylee Owens both drew walks while Jordan Camp and Ashton Mooney both scored runs.
