David Wease Announces Candidacy

David Wease of Madison Street in Monticello has announced his intention to seek the District 2, Post 1 seat on the Monticello City Council.
Qualifying for the November election is set for Monday, Aug. 26 through noon Thursday, Aug. 29. The seat is currently occupied by Randy Strozier who has not announced his intentions.
The election will be to a four year term. The city chose to go to staggered terms, so during the election of 2011, the mayoral post and two council seats were for two year terms that one time. Henceforth, all will be four year terms. The mayor pro tem and council seats District 1, Post 2, and District 2, Post 2 still have two years remaining in their terms.
Mr. Wease moved with his family to Jasper County when he was 12 years old, and was educated in the public schools here. His father was transferred here with Georgia-Pacific to start the new plywood plant. Mr. Wease subsequently worked for Georgia-Pacific for a time before beginning a career in industrial and residential paintings and coatings. He has retired, and now has time to commit to the city, he said.

He was married to the former Debbie Amerson of Monticello, and she died January 29, 2013. They have two children, both of whom are grown and on their own.
Mr. Wease has been a diligent attendee of most monthly meetings, called meetings and workshops of the Monticello City Council for more than the last three years with an attendance record as high as any council member and much higher than most.
“After much prayer and discussion, I would like for the citizens of Monticello to know that I intend on qualifying and running for the District 2, Post 1 seat,” said Mr. Wease.
“My main priorities are my God, my family and my community. I have as good an understanding of the tasks ahead for Monticello and the focus of the future of the well being of Monticello as any non-elected citizen.
“I have a good understanding of the procedural process in municipal government and I look forward to being a part of a smooth, productive, budget conscious Monticello City Council. I truly love our city and I have a vision of a community service that is focused on individual citizen`s and individual business`s needs,” said Mr. Wease.
“Having moved to Monticello in 1970, my character and knowledge have been molded by the wisdom of my elders in Jasper County,” he said. “I plan on using the majority of a councilman salary to create a city council giveaway in the form of a monthly drawing that would award one city residence and one city business a $100 gift, should I be elected,” he said.
“I`d like for any city dwellers to support me in my efforts and get to the polls this November. I thank you and may God Bless you, your families and our community,” Mr. Wease said in closing.
