Trivia
Maybe you’ve heard this one, three guys meet at a junction and exchange information that is interesting, but of little use; or as we call it today, TRIVIA, Latin for Three(tri) and Road(via).
The following information will someday, maybe, maybe not, be useful and/or interesting, maybe.
Today is the first day of August. The name, August, dates back to the Roman Empire and was chosen to honor Roman Emperor and great-nephew of Julius Caesar, Augustus Caesar. In 8 B.C., the Roman Senate thought him so worthy, they decided to name a month after him and that it should have the same amount of days as July, named for Uncle Julius Caesar.
So, they stole a day from lowly February which now was left with only 28 days except in a Leap Year. Do the math.
The big news of last week was the birth of another George across the pond. One of the NEW George’s great-grandfathers was King George III who granted the land in the New World for a new colony and named the colony after himself, naturally. Welcome, to Georgia.
Monticello, Americanized pronunciation, “Montisello,” is a morpheme of two Italian words meaning “Little Mountain.”
There are 21 other towns in the United States named Monticello. Thomas Jefferson’s home was named Monticello.
Well, Hello, Monticello.
