Charles William Allen

Charles William Allen, 95, of Monticello, died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Eatonton Health and Rehab in Eatonton.

Mr. Allen was born in Oconee County to the late William Thomas Allen and Donia Mae Anthony Allen. He lived in Walton County before moving to Monticello 60 years ago.

At the age of 11, Charles was hurt in a wagon accident that left him permanently crippled. Even with his disability, he worked hard doing the work he loved most, farming. He loved being with people and Smithboro Baptist Church.

His first wife of 52 years, Ruth Harp Allen and wife, Lorene Huckaby Allen; daughter, Jean Roberts; granddaughters, Dorothy Ann Speer Skinner and Barbara Robinson; and brothers and sister, Joseph Allen, Katie Mae Cook, Emory Lee Allen, Luther Allen, Bobby Allen, and Bill Allen, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Clenton and Cora Lee Allen of Eatonton, Bettie and Hulon Speer of McDonough, Janette Smith of Buford, Gary Allen of Monticello, and Donia and Terry Smith of Jackson; step-children, Beth Kopa of Washington state and Linda Slocumb of Monticello; grandchildren, David Allen, Linda Oakes, Lynn Hill, Thomas Speer, Chuck Smith, Allen Smith, and Gena Mills Smith.

Also, numerous great-grandchildren, Clint Allen, Billy Harrell, Ben Harrell, Greg Skinner, Steven Skinner, Christy Skinner, Ryan Smith, Brandon Smith, Jeremy Smith, Megan Smith, Cooper Smith, Kaylee Smith, Mills Smith, Matti Ruth Smith, and Ryn Smith. and brothers and sisters, Sara Martin of Conway, S.C., James Allen of Virginia Beach, Va., Jody Allen of Eatonton, and Lois Pitts of Thomaston.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Smithboro Baptist Church. Interment will be held at West View Cemetery. Revs. Jeff Pangle, Heck Davis, and Dale Parker will officiate.

Pallbearers will be David Allen, Chuck Smith, Allen Smith, Billy Hill, Thomas Speer, and Keith Smith.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 16, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Smithboro Baptist Church Building Fund, 314 Smithboro Road, Monticello, Ga. 31064; or Piedmont Academy, P.O. Box 231, Monticello, Ga. 31064 or to the charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to thank his granddaughter, Lynn Hill, the employees of Eatonton Health and Rehab, and Hospice Advantage for the loving care their father received.
