Miss Carrie Elizabeth Goolsby
Miss Carrie Elizabeth Goolsby was born April 3, 1921, to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Goolsby (Jodie Epps) who preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death were a sister, Jennie Mae, and two brothers, Benjamin and Johnny.
Miss Goolsby was born three months after her father’s death. She was raised solely by her mother. Miss Goolsby was a hard worker all of her life. She joined Sardis C.M.E. Church at an early age and worked faithfully until her health began to fail.
Miss Goolsby received her early education in the public schools of Jasper County. She graduated from Fort Valley State College with a bachelor of science degree in education and also completed additional studies at Fort Valley State College.
She taught school for 32 years, teaching kindergarten and second grade. She also drove the school bus.
Miss Goolsby was an eager hard worker all of her life. She ran a farm, raised cattle, corn, chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese. She knew how to make a dollar grow. She loved to cook and to feed people.
If you visited her you would leave with something, if it was just a jar of pepper jelly which she loved to make. She loved to make stuffed dolls and animals, which filled her home. She always looked forward to feeding her preachers. She would say, “getting rid of this country food.”
Survivors include her nieces and nephews Doris Jean Meeks (Howard) of Cleveland, Ohio; Annie Jo Goolsby of Gore, Okla.; Gwendolyn Busbye of Boynton Beach, Fla.; Freddie Goolsby (Carla) of Chester, S.C.; Johnnie Goolsby of Cleveland, Ohio.
