Market on the Square
Saturday morning turned out to be bright and sunny and just in time for a visit to the Monticello square for the weekly farmers market.
Quite a few vendors were set up offering fresh vegetables, zinnias, handmade birdhouses and wind chimes ringing in the slight breeze.
Several vendors offered green beans and newly-dug red potatoes, a great start to an all vegetable meal for Saturday night.
Then add in some cucumbers, touted as “burpless” and onions that would be nice pickled with some crushed garlic bulbs and vinegar.
Over on one side of the square, there was a truck bed full of juicy, Silver Queen corn and on the other side, another truck bed loaded with small refrigerator watermelons.
Lucky for us we have the chance each week during the summer to buy vegetables that are still fresh and full of goodness. Make sure you take advantage of our farmers market in the next few weeks.
The market on the square opens around 8:30 a.m. and officially ends at noon.
