Two Are Arrested in Drug Bust

MARIJUANA PLANTS ARE SEIZED

While assisting deputies from Newton County to serve an arrest warrant on Holman Road on June 13, deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) observed evidence of a marijuana growing operation.  

A search warrant was obtained and while executing it the deputies found marijuana plants being grown inside and outside the residence. Also discovered was a trafficking amount of methamphetamine, digital scales, packaging material and numerous smoking devices and drug paraphernalia, according to the report from the JCSO. In addition, deputies also seized several firearms, ammunition and a wireless surveillance system.

Michael Wilkins, 31, of Monticello was later arrested in Newton County, where he has been charged with manufacturing marijuana with additional charges pending in Jasper County.

Arrested at the scene were Stephen Perry Wilkerson, 49, and Mara D. Davis, 43, both of Monticello, who were both charged with criminal use of an article with an altered identification, purchase/possess/manufacture/distribution of marijuana, possession of a firearm or knife while trying to commit crimes and trafficking in methamphetamine.

In an unrelated case, on June 11, deputies with the JCSO responded to a report of suspicious persons at a residence on Kildeer Court. Upon arrival they found burglary tools in the floor of a vehicle parked in the driveway, discovered the house had been entered by force and that people were still inside. Arrested at the scene and charged with burglary were Dean Gordon Duffie, 47, and Kristina Elizabeth Webb, 24, both of a Conyers address. 

Another criminal incident which took place on June 15 was the report of the theft of a four-wheeler from a residence on Rocky Creek Road.

Also, during the period of June 11-18 the JCSO reported the following additional arrests:

•Frank Dumas, III, 27, Monticello—battery.

•Danny Brown Wehunt, 44, Griffin—probation violation.

•James Edward Brooks, 48, Monticello—violation of a civil contempt order.

•Alicia Marie Cates, 35, Monticello—possession of methamphetamine.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 181 calls for service including 72 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 17 subject needs officer, 13 alarm, nine checking location, seven mechanical breakdown, six each accident and juvenile complaint, five assist motorist, four road hazard, three each livestock or road, argument and domestic.

Also, two each speeding auto, fire, theft by taking, pick up prisoner/subject, welfare check trouble unknown, music/noise complaint, threatening/harassing calls, attempt to serve warrant and 911 hang up, one each dog disturbance, burglary, courtesy ride, choking person, repossession of vehicle, assault, child custody case, private property, indecent exposure, property found vgcsa, lost property and stalking.

The Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported only one arrests during the period mentioned above:

•Kenneth Anthony Thurman, 50, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

Officers with the MPD responded to 55 calls for service including 16 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, five escort or convoy, four alarm, three each mechanical breakdown and vandalism of property, two each wanted/stolen indicated, miscellaneous ems, four-wheeler, juvenile complaint and argument, one each fight, burglary, domestic, assist motorist, theft by taking, repossession of vehicle, assault, child custody case, private property, trouble unknown and road hazard.
