Southern Belles

Well, girls, according to some unwritten Southern Belle manual, after Memorial Day we are now allowed to wear white shoes and sandals.

Risk-takers started wearing white shoes on and after Easter, but all of us SB’s know only girls 10 years and younger can wear white shoes on Easter Sunday.

And men and apprentices can officially don the grill apron, get out the grill tools and fill up the propane tanks for BBQs. Look out girls, this activity may require your assistance including finding the grill aprons, grill tools, and taking the propane tanks to be filled. All the while the men folk are marinating either the meat to be cooked or themselves with a cool one.

Most of the children’s favorite outdoor activities begin around this time including going to a pool, lake, or stream. From the sounds coming off Lake Jackson, the water craft are already cranked up.

You either hear the personal water crafts that sound like a hive of angry bees or the boom-boom-boom of music coming from boats apparently for “everyone” within earshot to enjoy. NOT

School is out, kids are beginning to bug their parents about entertainment, “But little Billie and Sarah have season tickets to water/amusement parks and we have nothing to do.” Boo Hoo to You.

Just try to imagine what it will be like when you have to go to work every day, and get to wear white shoes, and BBQ for the family.

Congratulations to all those children and teens moving up a notch on the way to the cap and gown and onward.
