New Program Benefits County and Offenders

On Saturday May 11, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office held the first trash pick-up detail on Hwy. 212 West near the Newton County line.
The program was organized to benefit Jasper County and is a collaborative effort including the Jasper County’s Sheriff Office, Judicial Alternatives of Georgia “JAG” probation and the Jasper County Probate, Magistrate and Superior Courts.

The new program uses offenders ordered to complete community service to perform much needed clean-up details on state and county roads as well as county facilities. The funding to support the program will come from new supervision fees imposed by the court systems. Each offender now has a one dollar per hour supervision fee added to the standard court costs.
The program provides needed services for the county and a way for offenders to accumulate the hours they need to fulfill their sentences. The program will be held the second and fourth Saturday each month.
