John Griffin McMichael

John Griffin McMichael, 91, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at his residence.

“Griff” McMichael was a lifelong resident of Monticello. His parents were the late John Henry Levi McMichael and Naomi Jinks McMichael.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Before retirement, Mr. McMichael was a loading supervisor for the Feldspar Corporation. He was a member and deacon of Smithboro Baptist Church and attended Mt. Ararat Methodist Church in Eatonton. His hobbies included gardening and fishing.

His wife, Verdell Hulsey McMichael; and brothers and sister, O. B. McMichael, Myrtice Pope, Arthur McMichael, Chess McMichael, Aubie McMichael, M.O. “Red” McMichael, and Randolph McMichael preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Sadie Parham Manville McMichael of Monticello; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Teresa McMichael of Covington, Alvin and Nancy McMichael of Shady Dale; grandchildren, Kevin McMichael, James McMichael, and Candie McMichael; great-grandchildren, Tyler McMichael, Eric McMichael, and Ethan McMichael; step-children, Irene Mitchell, Robert Manville, Danny Manville, Ricky Manville, Elizabeth Manville, and Chris Straka; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 12, 2013, at 3 p.m. at chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Smithboro Baptist Church Cemetery. Revs. Paul Gardner and Hobart Roark will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Kevin McMichael, James McMichael, Robert Manville, Danny Manville, Ricky Manville, and Chandler Straka.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Hamilton State Bank, c/o Carissa Wilmot, P.O. Box 31, Monticello, GA 31064.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home.
