Piedmont Academy’s golf team finished second at the region tournament held at Hunter Pope Country Club Monday.

Overall, the team had a score of 340 and was led by Drew Collins (77) and Branson Parish (82), who were both named All-Region.

Also pacing Piedmont were team members James Marks (91), P.J. Leonetti (90) and Payden Cantera (106).

“I’m proud of these guys for playing through some not-so-ideal weather conditions and punching their ticket for state,” coach Wes Tanner said. “We finished as runner-up in a region behind a tough Brandon Hall squad. It has been an awesome year and one that I’m so glad won’t end until after the state match.”

The Cougars will venture to Jekyll Island this weekend and compete for a state title. The state competition will begin Monday morning. The team has planned for a practice round Sunday.

“These golfers have earned this trip and this chance at state,” Tanner said. “Drew has done such a great job of being a leader on this team, both through his play and by being there to help our younger players improve on their game. It’s been awesome seeing Drew grow up and really be a team leader for us this year. I am so proud of everyone on the team and we are looking forward to state.”
