M. Sailors Probation Is Revoked

Mitchell A. Sailors, who was on probation for a conviction of possession of meth in January of 2012, appeared in Jasper County Superior Court Tuesday with Judge James L. Cline, Jr., presiding, to answer charges in three different cases involving simple battery/family violence, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of an officer and possession of methamphetamine.

Mr. Sailors pled guilty to all of the above and received several sentences to run concurrent. He was given a five year sentence with two years to serve and the remainder to be served on probation. He was also ordered to pay fines and fees totaling $2,810 and given credit for time served since January 17, 2012.

Other criminal cases on the calendar which were processed include the following:

•A motion by Bryan J. Gorman for a reduction of sentence was denied after argument of counsel on the motion.  Mr. Gorman, one of the so-called Irish Travelers, was arrested and charged with burglary and giving false information in January, 2012, was subsequently tried and convicted by a Jasper County jury and sentenced to serve eight years, and is currently serving that sentence in the Rogers State Prison in Reidsville.

•Tony Thurman, who was on probation for a conviction on the sale of cocaine in October, 1996, was found to have violated his probation via the new charges of failure to report and failure to pay court ordered fines and fees. Mr. Thurman was sentenced to serve 365 days in the county jail with credit for time served, and upon release be returned to regular probation supervision.

•Jeffery Kidd, who was on probation for a conviction of burglary in November, 2011, was found to have violated his probation vas the new charges of failure to pay court ordered fines and fees and leaving the state without notification.  Mr. Kidd was released from jail and given 60 days to pay $1,200 or serve 60 days in the county jail, and upon the completion of either be returned to active probation supervision.

•Darren Greer, who was on probation for conviction of theft by taking in May of 2011, was found to have violated his probation via the new charges of failure to report and failure to pay court ordered fines and fees.  Mr. Greer was released from the county jail pending entry into a state probation detention center to serve 90/120 days and upon completion be returned to probation supervision as originally ordered.

•Terri Tyler was found to have violated her probation via failure to attend court ordered treatment and use of alcohol.  Ms. Tyler was released from jail and ordered to attend a Residential Substance Abuse Treatment as soon as a spot becomes available, and upon completion be turned to regular probation supervision.

•Joseph P. Williamson, who was on probation for child molestation and sexual exploitation of children, was found to have violated his probation via the condition of having sexually oriented material.  Mr. Williamson was remanded to the county jail pending entry into a state probation detention center for a period of 9-/120 days and upon completion be returned to sex offender probation supervision.

•Brandon L. Thomas pled guilty to two counts of obstruction of an officer and possession of contraband by an inmate. Mr. Thomas was sentenced to two years with credit for time served since September 4, 2012. 

•Jonathan A. Hix pled guilty in two different cases on charges of theft by receiving stolen property and theft by taking.  Mr. Hix was sentenced to five years to be served on probation.

•James Andy Sneed pled guilty to failure to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to 10 years with five to serve and the remainder to be served on probation, and $1,405 in fines and fees.

The court also processed three civil cases and continued two other cases.
