Piedmont Golfers Prepare for Region
Piedmont Academy’s golf team wrapped up the regular season Monday and is now looking toward next week’s region tournament.
The Cougars played on the road Monday against Brentwood and posted a team score of 355 for an 18-hole match.
“We played pretty well,” said coach Wes Tanner. “If we are able to continue to improve, it should allow us to qualify for state.”
Drew Collins finished with a round of 82 Monday while Branson Parish finished with an 89. P.J. Leonetti scored 90 with James Marks at 92. Payden Cantera and Hunter Pope also competed for Piedmont.

“It was good for us to play and start working on getting our endurance up,” Tanner said. “That was the key and that was the whole point of Monday’s match.”
The region tournament will be Monday at Hunter Pope Country Club in Monticello. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. with Piedmont, Brandon Hall, Flint River, Oak Mountain, Arlington and Furtah Prep participating.
“We are looking forward to it and hopefully will take the steps to qualify for state,” Tanner said.
